Driving Assistance Interface for Simulated Interventions

As driver assistance technologies are researched, many different algorithms for this application are developed. Research needs to be done to determine how drivers react to the assistance provided by any of these algorithms. For this purpose, these algorithms should be tested with real users. A simulated driving assistance system has been developed on behalf of researchers at Utrecht University and the Eindhoven University of Technology. Using socket communication, this simulated driving assistance system allows for driving simulations wherein interaction between a driving assistance algorithm —making use of our custom library—and a driver is possible with various degrees of assistance. Using transactions, the system allows data gathered during simulations to be quickly and correctly stored. This data can then be used for future analysis of performed driving behavior and the responses of the algorithm used.
